Not learning to ride until he was in his 30's gave Barchan a late start to his jousting career, but he has been making up for it with longevity. Jousting since 1984 and in heavy armor since 1988, Barchan has jousted all over North America and in Europe. He says at his age "it's good to have a contact sport that he can do sitting down".
